Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about importing and exporting WooCommerce and WordPress content with Shirely.
Can I import variable WooCommerce products with WPML translations from a single CSV?
Yes. Matrix Mode can import variable products, their variations, and WPML translations from one file. Use language-suffixed columns such as name|en, name|de, and name|pl.
What is Matrix Mode?
Matrix Mode places each language in columns on one row. Shirely creates the default-language item, creates its translations, and links them through WPML. It also supports products, categories, posts, pages, and custom post types.
Do I have to map CSV columns manually?
Shirely recognizes common columns and language suffixes on upload. Review and adjust the mapping before you start the import.
Can I import from and export to Google Sheets?
Yes. You can start imports and exports on demand, and save supported workflows as Automation slots. A published Google Sheet can be imported without credentials. A private sheet and every export require a Google Service Account.
What file formats does Shirely support?
The import screen supports UTF-8 CSV files up to 50 MB. Shirely can also import from and export to Google Sheets.
Can I update existing products without creating duplicates?
Use post ID, SKU, Matrix ID / External ID, or a WPML translation group to match an import row to an existing record. Review the selected matching key before importing.
Do I need WPML to use Shirely?
No. WPML is optional. Without it, Shirely imports and exports products, taxonomies, posts, pages, and custom post types. With WPML, Matrix Mode adds the multilingual workflow.
Do I need WooCommerce?
WooCommerce is required for product-related work. You can use Shirely for posts, pages, and custom post types on WordPress without WooCommerce.
Besides products, what can I import and export?
Shirely supports categories, terms, tags, posts, pages, custom post types, orders, customers/users, product reviews and coupons. In 1.3.0, coupons use WooCommerce-native import and export.
Does Shirely import WPML category hierarchies?
Yes. Category Matrix uses source IDs and parent source IDs to build the hierarchy and link translations through WPML.
Can Shirely run imports automatically on a schedule?
Yes. Save a supported import or export as an Automation slot, use Run now, or schedule it hourly, twice daily or daily with WP-Cron. WP-Cron depends on site visits, so use system cron and WP-CLI when timing must be reliable. Check Run History to confirm that a run finished.
Can I run multiple imports at the same time?
Do not run the wizard, Automation, WP-CLI or WP-Cron at the same time when they can modify the same products, terms or WPML/WCML translation groups. Schedule those runs sequentially and confirm completion in Run History.
What does Smart Sync skip?
Smart Sync skips unchanged posts, pages, and custom post types with a mapped Record ID. Products, categories, and Matrix Mode rows are always processed.
Can I migrate data from another WooCommerce store?
Yes. Exports carry catalog provenance to support safer cross-store moves. For a standard product import, match by SKU; in multilingual Matrix Mode, use Matrix ID / External ID when SKU is not the right business key. Keep natural keys stable and test the workflow on staging. A WordPress product ID identifies a record only in its original store.
Can I import SEO and custom fields?
Yes. Use a meta_ column followed by the field’s actual meta key. This covers Yoast SEO, Rank Math, custom post meta and simple ACF fields stored as ordinary post meta. Shirely does not include dedicated ACF field logic.
Can I import product data in non-Latin scripts?
Yes. Use UTF-8 CSV and Shirely preserves WordPress content in Unicode scripts, including Cyrillic, Arabic and CJK text. This describes imported data; it does not promise a separate RTL admin layout.
What scale has Shirely been tested with?
A documented production catalog had 8,500 products, 1,040 categories, and four languages. A separate category run processed 1,068 categories across four languages (4,272 rows) in 9 minutes 21 seconds. These are measurements from a specific shared-hosting environment, not a universal performance guarantee.
What happens after the first year?
The plugin keeps working if you do not renew. Renewal is optional and costs 30% less than the first-year price.
Is there a free trial or refund policy?
There is no free trial. Every plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee.
